Beyond The Brush is a locally owned and operated company. Sunny owns it, has been in the local painting trade for over 20 years, and is on the job himself rather than behind a desk. This is the messiest thing we do, which is exactly why the preparation matters more here than anywhere else.

They can, in older homes. If the age of the house warrants it we will tell you plainly to have it tested before anyone scrapes. We do not guess on this.
“Will there be dust through the entire house?”
No. The room is sealed off first and the texture comes off wet rather than dry, which keeps the dust down enormously.

Scraping on its own leaves a rough surface. The ceiling has to be skim coated, sanded flat and primed afterwards, and that is included.
“Do I need to move out while it happens?”
No. The room being worked on is out of use for the day and sealed off from the rest of the house.

Scraping a ceiling is easy. Doing it without filling your house with dust, and leaving a genuinely flat surface behind, is the part that takes experience.
Popcorn Ceiling Removal: our standard of work
- We seal the room before anything is scraped. Floors, walls and anything staying in the room are covered, and the doorway is sealed off from the rest of the house.
- If the age of the home warrants it, we tell you to have it tested first. Textured ceilings in older homes can contain asbestos. We will say so plainly, and nobody scrapes until you have an answer.
- The texture comes off wet, not dry. Wetting it down keeps the dust out of the air and out of the rest of your home.
- The ceiling is skim coated, not just scraped. Scraping alone leaves a rough, patchy surface. The skim coat is what makes it flat.
- Sanding is done with dust control. And we clean as we go rather than at the end.
- The ceiling gets primed before its finish coats. New drywall compound drinks paint unevenly if you skip this.
- Everything that came out of the room goes back where it was. Once the dust is gone, not before.
- The room goes back together only once the dust is gone. Putting the furniture back first just moves the dust onto your furniture.
If we miss any of it, tell us and we come back. Every job carries a written 5-year warranty and we are insured to $2,000,000.

Walk it and assess
We look at the ceiling, the age of the home and what is above it, and tell you what the job involves.

Asbestos test if needed
If the home is old enough for asbestos to be a question, that gets answered before anyone scrapes.

Seal off the room
Floors, walls and doorways covered and sealed off from the rest of the house.

Wet scrape the texture
The texture is wetted and taken off, which keeps the dust down.

Skim coat and sand
The ceiling is skimmed flat and sanded with dust control.

Prime, paint and reset
Primer, finish coats, everything put back, then the walkthrough and warranty.
