Fence Painting & Staining
A fence is the first thing people see and the last thing that gets looked after. Most of the work in bringing one back is not the painting, it is taking the old failing coat off so the new one has something to hold onto.

Why us
What went wrong
last time.
Beyond The Brush is a locally owned and operated company. Sunny owns it, has been in the local painting trade for over 20 years, and is on the job himself rather than behind a desk. Fences take weather from both sides and get the least attention of anything on a property. These come up every time.
“It is peeling so badly I assumed it needed replacing.”
If the wood underneath is sound, it does not. The scraping takes longer on a fence in that state, and that is what the estimate reflects.
“The last painter only did the side facing the street.”
We tell you exactly which sides the price covers before we start. Doing both sides is real extra labour and we will not pretend otherwise.
“I do not want paint chips through my vegetable beds.”
Beds and lawn get covered before we start, and old scrapings get cleaned up rather than left in the garden.
“The gate never shut properly afterwards.”
The gate gets the same treatment as the fence, and we check it still swings and latches before we leave.
Our standard
What we do
on every job.
You can roll fresh paint straight onto a peeling fence. It will look good for a season and then peel in exactly the same places.
Fence Painting & Staining: our standard of work
- Peeling paint is scraped back to a surface the new coat can hold. This is most of the labour on a fence, and it is what the estimate is really for.
- We are clear about which sides are included. Both sides is a real difference in work, so it is spelled out in the estimate rather than assumed.
- Bare and weathered wood gets primed before colour. Grey, sun-worn timber will drink a finish coat and leave you with a patchy fence.
- Loose boards and popped nails get sorted first. A fence that moves cracks its own finish.
- Gardens, beds and lawn are covered before we start. Fences usually have planting on both sides of them.
- Posts and rails are coated, not just the pickets facing the street. The parts you see from your own garden get the same coat.
- We clean up the scrapings. Old paint chips do not get left in your flower beds.
- We check the gate still swings and latches before we leave. A freshly coated gate that binds on its post is not finished work.
If we miss any of it, tell us and we come back. Every job carries a written 5-year warranty and we are insured to $2,000,000.
Process
How a fence
job runs.
-
01
Walk it and measure
We measure the run, look at the condition and tell you what including both sides would mean.
-
02
Scrape back the coat
Failing coating comes off and edges get feathered so the join does not telegraph.
-
03
Repairs and fasteners
Loose boards refixed, popped nails set, obvious problems flagged.
-
04
Prime the bare wood
Everywhere the scraping went down to timber.
-
05
Colour coats go on
Pickets, rails, posts and caps, in the colour you picked.
-
06
Gate, cleanup, warranty
Gate rehung and checked, scrapings cleared, warranty in writing.
