Cabinet Refinishing
If your cabinet boxes are solid and you just cannot stand the colour any more, refinishing gets you a new-looking kitchen without a renovation. It only works if the prep is done properly, and that is where our time goes.

Why us
What went wrong
last time.
Beyond The Brush is a locally owned and operated company. Sunny owns it, has been in the local painting trade for over 20 years, and is on the job himself rather than behind a desk. Cabinets are the job people most often regret having done cheaply. Here is why.
“The quote for new cabinets was frightening.”
If your boxes are solid and it is the colour or finish you dislike, refinishing gets you a new-looking kitchen for a fraction of replacing them.
“My friend had hers painted and it chipped within a month.”
That is kitchen grease and skipped prep. We degrease every surface, sand it, and use a bonding primer made for cabinets rather than wall primer.
“I do not want to see brush marks on my doors.”
You will not. Doors and drawer fronts come off and get sprayed, which is the only way to a genuinely smooth finish.
“How long am I without a kitchen?”
You keep the boxes, the counters and the sink the whole time. Only the doors and drawer fronts leave for finishing.
Our standard
What we do
on every job.
Cabinets are the least forgiving surface in the house. They get touched, cleaned and knocked every day, so the preparation has to be right.
Cabinet Refinishing: our standard of work
- Doors, drawer fronts and hardware come off and get labelled. Every piece goes back into the opening it came out of.
- Every surface is degreased. Kitchen grease is the single most common reason cabinet paint fails. It has to come off before anything else happens.
- Everything is sanded and scuffed. A factory finish is sealed. New coating will not bond to it until we open it up.
- Bonding primer made for cabinets. Not wall primer. The product is different for a reason.
- Sprayed, not brushed. Brush marks on a cabinet door never stop being visible. Spraying is what gives you the smooth, even finish.
- Proper cure time between coats. Rushing a cabinet finish is exactly how it chips a month later.
- Hardware refitted and doors adjusted. They sit level and close cleanly when we hand the kitchen back.
- Doors are rehung only once the finish has properly hardened. Rehanging onto soft paint is how a good spray job gets ruined in its last hour.
If we miss any of it, tell us and we come back. Every job carries a written 5-year warranty and we are insured to $2,000,000.

How a cabinet
job runs.

Doors, drawer fronts and hardware come off and are labelled by opening.
-
03
Degrease and sand back
Every surface is cleaned of kitchen grease and then sanded to give the primer a key.

A bonding primer made for cabinetry, not a general wall primer.
-
05
Spray the finish coats
Even coats with proper cure time between them.
-

Refit doors and walk it
Doors rehung and adjusted, hardware back on, then the walkthrough and warranty.
